On August 10, we celebrated one year since our deployment to Jerusalem/Palestine. What a year! The four of us think back on our ministry and life here and do not regret the day we decided to say yes to a need and a call. The summer of 2016 Ben and I were sent to Palestine by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to coordinate the communications of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL). Our ministry is word, images, and service to a church and a community that has a story to tell; and indeed their story impacts the world. This year has been a year of transitions, a year of renewals. As we moved into our new community, our new community experienced its fair share of transformations. It was a blessed opportunity to assist them by communicating the news of their many new starts:

• Bishop Younan and Pope Francis jointly celebrated a Common Prayer in Lund and Malmo, Sweden to commemorate 500th Year of Reformation
• ELCJHL elects a new bishop with a year-long transitioning period under the current bishop
• Bishop Younan wins the Niwano Peace Prize
• Bishop Younan completes a seven-year term as President of The Lutheran World Federation
• Ordination of a new ELCJHL pastor
• Installation of three new principals at the Evangelical Lutheran Schools
• Pastoral change at the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem
• Easter was celebrated at the same time this year by all the major Christian denominations in the Holy Land. Their calendars are different so this is not always the case
• Witnessed the transformation of six ELCA Young Adults in Global Missions
