This past weekend my family spent both Saturday and Sunday at The Georgia Institute of Technology’s beautiful aquatic center as my little girl struggled through her first swim meet.
She walked away with four disqualifications out of 7 events, one DNF (Did Not Finish), and two official times.
It was a challenge for her to keep up with the rhythm and pace of the meet and the other swimmers. Her team was counting on her, and she was, well, drowning in challenges.
One thing I learned was it is tough to watch your child fail, and struggle to get up again, or in this case, jump back in the water. There was nothing I could do to make it better. I could only pray that she heard my words of encouragement and didn’t pick up my mounting anxiety.
My husband also had his own parental awakening. Read it here.
